Etymology
An "automaton" is a self-operating machine, typically powered by clockwork, or pressure difference.
The Japanese name for the creature Othuum, (オトゥーム), is a minor diety that appears in the Cthulu mythos, first appearing in Brian Lumley's Rising with Surtsey.
It is described as "A twisting, ropy-tentacled mass with a single alien face somewhere in the center of the slimy squirming mass."
