A sixteen year-old boy who runs a detective agency in New York City, Johnny is on his own after his father and sister die in a car accident.
Like in all Shadow Hearts games, nothing is as it appears, and much of the story's main plot involves Johnny discovering the truths about his past.
He has feelings for Shania, as evidenced throughout the game. Johnny's element is None. As pointed out by Roger, he is not in fact sixteen.
It is later revealed that Johnny was in fact resurrected using the Émigré Manuscript, and that Lady is in the failed resurrection of Johnny's sister Grace.
Johnny can use Handy Tools, such as a camera (the Edgar Mark II) to photograph his enemies in order to reveal information about them; a vacuum cleaner to suck up his enemies' Stock Gauge for his own use, and a Cell-phone to call his butler Lenny to dish out some damage.
Johnny uses knives as his main weapon, and early in the game gains the ability to channel Malice through them. Later in the game, he gains the ability to release the Malice in his body and change form, similar to Shania's Fusion power; his weapon is replaced by a rod, which he uses to channel two blades of Malice and Will from each end.
Johnny can have up to three Hit areas on his Judgement Ring.

‡A variation of this appears in the early stages of the game if Johnny is KO'd called "Lenny, my Love", where Lenny, sensing his master's fall, will turn and blast them with the power from the Godhand.
Johnny is good natured and very trusting.
He starts out frustrated that no one in New York takes his detective agency very seriously, and is very quick to prove himself.
Throughout his adventure he matures, growing noticably closer to Shania.
In the end, it is Johnny who strikes the fatal blow to Lady, taking responsibility for his family's actions and saving the world. He can be a bit over-bearing, especially when dealing with Lenny.
