Frank Goldfinger's master and a good friend of Al Capone, Mao is most notable for being a giant talking cat with a penchant for alcohol. She tolerates little foolishness, especially from her former student, but can be compassionate and wise when it is called for. She also harbors a secret desire to be a movie star; her side quest actually revolves around her making a film in which she fights her way through a Five-Story Pagoda against other giant felines who are parodies of famous action stars, such as Sammo Meow and Cat Morita. Mao's Element is water, and she uses flasks of alcohol to fuel her "Drunken Fist" style of fighting.

Fighting Style[]

Mao fights as a master of Drunken Fist, able to fight off-balanced and strike at odd angles. She powers up her form with different liquors, each more alcoholic than the last. Her Cat Fist powers tap into her drunken strength when she needs it, changing her enemies into drunken wrecks or, more humiliatingly, cat coins Mao uses to fund her independent film.

She is can have up to four Hit Areas on the Judgement Ring.

Trivia[]

  • Mao and her fellow cats are loosely based on the cat yōkai, the Bakeneko, where long-lived cats gain magical powers, and the ability to speak human language.[1]
  • Mao herself is modelled on the calico cat breed.[2]
  • Mao's name is derived from Taiwanese martial artist and actress, Angela Mao[3], who appeared in Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon", the inspiration for the Cat Pagoda. The name is also Chinese onomatopoeia for a cat's meow.

  • According to Purgatory, her sin is greed.
