They way I did it was by modifying the world map so that the Apoina Tower option teleports you to the island instead of the tower.
If you open a hex editor and search for AP_00_U, you'll eventually come across An area that looks like this. These are the areas that the world map teleports you to. Just change AP_00_U (Or any of the options here) to DB_00_U and that should change the world map to take you to Debug Island instead. It's also possible to save the game in there on an emulator, so you can do that, or use a save state, and change it back to normal, if you'd like.
Also, while looking for that to help you out, it seems I came across the cutscene list for the Island's cutscene viewer, lmao. I'm gonna look through these and see if there's anything worthwhile.
In terms of this, not really. I could probably have had disc one completely done by now if not for other obligations ;__;. Working on it though!
Yeah, I noticed that all the DC enemies are in the English version, as well as the battle arenas. The navigatable areas are really the only things that are missing. I don;t know if the enemies have entires in the jounral though, they don't unlock when you defeat them and I haven't found a way to manually unlock them to check. More on that later.
Also if you dig deep enough there are some odd enemy configurations. So far I've come across a battle with three Martega's and one with a [[Skeeter] and an Arachne. I haven't dug too far deep into those though.
What did you use for Nucklavee? Using the preset battle configs there didn't seem to be one for him, just the random enemies in the temple. Likewise, I could get the Seven headed god, but not the random enemies of the woods. And I went through them all before it started going to the default battle preset. Im sure it's in the individual enemy configs somwehere but I haven't gone into those, at least not very far
I'll have to dig my notes somewhere - it was the PAL version - I think it was 201 (there's a point where it's just four Revenants) - all the presets seem to be whatever the game classes as "mandatory" fights, so like the combo tutorial, bosses, scripted ambushes (which is how I found it by accident).
I'll try and find them from somewhere and get back to you.
They might not have library entries - I know the Stray Wolf doesnt, and that's in the regular game. Worth investigating at some point though :)
201 Got me the Guardian in the custom battle menu and four revenants in the presets. And yeah, I figured that the presets were the scripted fights, but I find it weird that there's no Nucklavee in there.
Meh, I'm sure I'll figure it out at some point.
Also, not sure if I mentioned (and I don;t have screenshots yet) But in addition to the dummy arena and the unused Apoina Tower arena, I also found two more unused ones. The indoor area of the Yokohama Warehouses and the inside of the Mayors house in Le Havre. I...THINK they're areas 37 and 76 but I'm not sure, I mode my notes on that when I got them via hex editing before I bigured out how to get to the debug island.
Oh for peetes sake. In my notes, 148 is the armored fighter. That one is actually 48, not 148. Must have forgot the one when I was going through it.
That makes SO much more sense.
I'll dig through the non-preset stuff when I get a chance, Right now I want to finish translating the debug menu and getting further into translating the story (So far I'm only finished with Apoina and Domremmy's first visits and a good chunk of Ardennes)
Went ahead and made a video for those mini games. They aren't much but they work fine in the DC.
That's pretty neat - weird but neat.
Hmm. I dunno then. Must be different debug versions for the regions. I guess. I'm working on a PAL emulation - it's Square and R2 to get to that menu.
First option just tells me when this version is dated: 2004/07/16.
"Create window" - makes a little grey floating text box you can place or type anything in.
"Debug 2" just crashes the emulator.
"Help" and the mini games just don't function on my one.
And here's the translation for the movie menu (R2 and circle):
They all freeze my emulator when I attempt to play a movie. Probably entering the wrong sequence of things.
Square and X...so probably Square and Circle for you, since X and O are switched in the japanese versions. I've gotten VERY little in tnat menu to work, just got one BGM to play, someting with NPC testing, and I THINK something to test part of Blanca's wolf bouts.
I took a look in the NTSC-UC version, stragely enough, the version date is LATER than the DC. I'm willing to bet they just split the japanese version into the DC and English versions rather than revert an english version back to japanese. That would certainly explain the two extra options.
No idea what Help would have been but I THINK Debug Island 2 teleports you to an area designated DB_01_U...Which doesn't actually exist. It may have had something to do with localization testing. We'll never know either wa.
The movie player is the same menu you get from the main menu, the input is looking SPECIFICLY for the filename. So far, I got a couple of the pre-rendered scenes in Petrograd to play but thats about it.
Any chance you can translate the flags and misc sections of the mian debug menu? I'm slowly figuring those out but some still baffle me.
By the way, if you have a Discord, hit me up. Probably easier than talking through here
Played around with that third menu, It also has a tester for the shop, and the red option advances Blanca's Stamp Card (The number input determines which wolf bout you defeated for that particular stamp)
There's also something to do with the Judgement Ring. But I can;t seems to get any good results with that.
